Well when the weather starts turning to snow and ice else where, the rock junkies are happy to be in Texas! Our guides took a trip out to Hueco tanks the other weekend and enjoyed down right amiable weather conditions. Thanks to the Access Fund and American Alpine Club, our group got to stay at the Hueco Rock Ranch (make sure to pay the iron ranger when no one is there!) positioned right across from the park.

In the mornings, we’d do a solo warm-up on Cake Walk, a nice 250 ft 5.6, just to get the blood pumping and then we’d go hit the high quality bouldering.

Hueco tanks is known for its powerful and aesthetic movements on enormous holds. While much of the park is closed or limited access, there is more than enough world class quality bouldering to go around.

trying to find some sparse shade in the middle of the day. In the desert, when the sun comes out, it gets warm. This is what makes Hueco Tanks a fantastic winter training or climbing destination!
