Bechler River Backpacking

This extraordinary trip is the classic Yellowstone backcountry experience. Following the famous Bechler River, participants will see pristine alpine lakes and streams, breathtaking waterfalls, geysers, world-class fishing, and opportunities to soak in hot springs—basically, everything that makes Yellowstone a destination. Experience all of this far from the crowds with our knowledgeable guides and come home with memories of a lifetime.

Trip is a 6 day backpacking trip, originating out of Jackson, WY. $990

We offer dates in July, August, and September. If you don’t see dates that fit with you schedule we always offer custom dates, the contact information for Yellowstone Custom trips can be found here.

Day 1:

Transport to Kepler Cascades TH from Jackson.

Then we hike in to see the largest backcountry geyser that Yellowstone has to offer: Lonestar Geyser—sometimes erupting up to 70 ft! Then the group is off over the Continental Divide to Shoshone Lake in Shoshone Geyser Basin, which is home to a plethora of uniquely amazing geysers.

Day 2:

After a long hike, we end up at Bechler Canyon and the headwaters of the Bechler River. After making camp, we carry on to one of the most relaxing parts of the trip, a hot springs soak with the gorgeous Bechler Canyon as our backdrop.

Day 3:

Because this area is so beautiful, and the hot springs so relaxing, we spend a second day at this site to fish, do light day hikes, take pictures, and of course, soak. We find the key to a successful backcountry trip is to make sure you take time to stop and smell the sulfur!

Day 4:

We’ll hike further down the river encountering two river crossings, and seeing two breathtaking waterfalls: Colonnade falls and Iris Falls. We set up camp very close to Colonnade falls, so a return trip to get that perfect picture or just take in its majesty is possible and definitely encouraged.

Day 5:

The hike takes us out of Bechler Canyon, in to Bechler Meadow, where great wildlife sightings are not uncommon! We will be camping right next to another relaxing hot spring, where we will soak up our last night in the backcountry.

Day 6:

Our last day, we will hike out to the Bechler Ranger station to conclude our trail time. Then, we will provide transport back to Jackson, WY.
