Outpost Wilderness Adventure summer camps and expeditions are designed to provide teenagers with high quality, in-depth instruction in a range of outdoor adventure activities, great opportunities for personal growth and lots of fun. These are not traditional summer camps, but intensive adventure experiences geared to the abilities and interests of teenagers. We specialize in rock and alpine climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, backcountry travel and multi-skill adventures. Our trips are great for any teenager looking for a unique summer experience.
We are THE place for focusing on actual skill development (of course we have a great time, build lasting friendships and help each person grow as an individual).
OWA summer programs generally originate at the Denver international airport and then head into the nearby rocky mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. Many programs do not require previous experience, but participants should be prepared for an active experience in a relatively remote setting. OWA provides all group gear and has most other gear available for rent including backpacks, climbing gear, mountain bikes, and mountaineering gear along with transportation to and from the Denver International Airport, great food and some of the best guides and leaders in the business! Group size is limited so inquire early. Check out our video to meet some former campers.
OWA is fully insured and licensed by the State of Colorado Division of Child Care, and operates on public lands under permit through the US Forest Service, BLM of Colorado and Utah, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, and National Park Service. OWA is an Equal Opportunity Employer and Service Provider.
As advertised! Our guides started putting together a list of their favorite Colorado rides, climbs, hikes and paddles, and then we put a trip together that encompasses all of them. This trip is perfect for those that want an introduction to a wide range of activities to find their outdoor passion. On this trip we spend the first half of our week in Buena Vista, where we mountain bike, climb, and paddle. Then we pack up and head out for an over night backpack in the Lost Creek Wilderness where we summit the remote and beautiful Bison Peak.
This trip can be paired with our Colorado Rock trip for an incredible two-week adventure and will introduce kids to all the skills they need for that trip as well! The cost for our program is all-inclusive, which means gear, transport to and from the Denver airport, and all food/housing is covered.
Our cornerstone rock-climbing road trip is back for this year! On our Colorado Rock Trip, we travel and climb at some of the best climbing destinations that Colorado has to offer. A great variety of routes and diversity of rock make this trip an excellent option for the beginner or experienced climber. Kids will have an opportunity to learn basic and advanced climbing techniques such as belaying, anchor building, trad climbing, multi-pitch, lead climbing, and overall technique. This trip is perfect for climbers who want to hit the road for a week, leave the city behind, and focus on climbing. Just like any good road trip, we visit local attractions, eat at great locally owned restaurants, and spend nights camping under the stars near the crags. It’s sure to be a trip to remember!
The cost for our program is all-inclusive, which means gear, transport to and from the Denver airport, and all food/housing is covered. Our list of possible climbing sites includes Penitente Canyon, Shelf Road, Turkey Rocks, 11 mile canyon and others (dependent on weather and local restrictions). Guide to student ratios are very low so we can focus on personal instruction.

Experience one of our very favorite wild places– the Wind River Range of Wyoming. This trip is an OWA classic backpack through some of the greatest backcountry terrain anywhere in the country! Hard work pays off on this expedition, as spectacular scenery far from the crowds, unparalleled fishing, and beautiful peaks abound in this truly unique and unrivaled North American wilderness area. Participants will get a chance to challenge themselves and improve any existing backcountry skills they might already posses. This year’s expedition combines backpacking, fishing and mountaineering in the remote Popo Agie Wilderness.
This trip originates at the Denver international airport with travel via OWA vehicle to Lander, Wyoming. The team will spend 9 days in the Wind River backcountry, predominantly in the North Fork of the Popo Agie drainage and then up onto the Big Sandy Divide (right on the Continental Divide) including a non-technical ascent of Wind River Peak (13,100 ft).
