Outpost Wilderness Adventure summer camps and expeditions are designed to provide teenagers with high quality, in-depth instruction in a range of outdoor adventure activities, great opportunities for personal growth and lots of fun. These are not traditional summer camps, but intensive adventure experiences geared to the abilities and interests of teenagers. We specialize in rock and alpine climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, backcountry travel and multi-skill adventures. Our trips are great for any teenager looking for a unique summer experience.
We are THE place for focusing on actual skill development (of course we have a great time, build lasting friendships and help each person grow as an individual).
OWA summer programs generally originate at the OWA Colorado Base Camp located about 70 miles northwest of Colorado Springs, in the Tarryall Mountains. Some programs take place in the Base Camp area, while others head into a variety of backcountry locations in Colorado and Wyoming. Many programs do not require previous experience, but participants should be prepared for an active experience in a relatively remote setting. OWA provides all group gear and has most other gear available for rent including backpacks, climbing gear, mountain bikes, and mountaineering gear along with transportation to and from the Denver International Airport, great food and some of the best guides and leaders in the business! Group size is limited so inquire early. Check out our video to meet some former campers.
OWA is fully insured and licensed by the State of Colorado Division of Child Care, and operates on public lands under permit through the US Forest Service, BLM of Colorado and Utah, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, and National Park Service. OWA is an Equal Opportunity Employer and Service Provider.
Sport Climbing road trip and teen adventure program at its best.
The cost for our programs is all inclusive including transport to and from Denver airport and all food/housing. Our ultimate rock climbing road trip– Back for this year!! We travel and climb at some of the most famous climbing destinations that Colorado has to offer. A great variety of routes and diversity of rock make this trip a must do for any climber. Instruction and activities include advanced climbing techniques like anchor building, trad climbing, multi-pitch,, lead considerations, and overall technique. The trip is perfect for all levels of climbers eager to climb harder and learn more about the sport. After a day of sport climbing to “learn the ropes” or refresh skills then this show goes on the road and we hit Penitente Canyon, Shelf Road, 11 mile canyon and Turkey rocks– truly world-class areas. Many nights are spent camping near the crags. Guide to student ratios are very low 4:1 or better for this trip to maximize personal learning. Just like any good road trip, we will also be visiting local and historical attractions and eating at some great locally owned restaurants. With many other surprises in store, the road trippers are sure to have an experience to remember!

As advertised! Our guides started putting together a list of their favorite Colorado rides, climbs, hikes and paddles then we put a trip together that encompasses all of them. We climb, bike, hike and paddle in central Colorado for a week. We’ll travel to Buena Vista for the river and hot springs, we climb in the incredible 11 mile canyon and shelf road, we hike in Lost Creek Wilderness. This trip has a little bit of everything and is an absolute blast!
Our annual return to one of our very favorite places– the Wind River Range of Wyoming. An OWA classic for experiencing some of the greatest backcountry terrain anywhere in the world! This trip is a step up in challenge and commitment from our Colorado Wilderness Leadership Course. But hard work pays off, as spectacular scenery far from the crowds, unparalleled fishing, and beautiful peaks abound in this truly unique and unrivaled North American wilderness area. Participants will get a chance to challenge themselves and improve any existing backcountry skills they might already posses. This year’s expedition is a combination backpacking, fishing and mountaineering into the Popo Agie Wilderness. Team members can expect great fishing, unsurpassed scenery, and a chance to ascend one or more of the area’s major peaks still with plenty of options for non-fishermen or non-climbers.
The program originates at the Denver international airport with travel via OWA vehicle to Lander,Wyoming. The team will spend 9 days in the Wind River backcountry, predominantly in the North Fork of the Popo Agie drainage and then up onto the Big Sandy Divide (right on the Continental Divide) including a non-technical ascent of Wind River Peak (13,100 ft).

Get on all those classic climbs you see in the magazines! Wyoming is home to some of the best rock climbing in the country. World class (and famous) areas like Wild Iris, Freemont Canyon, and Sinks Canyon are a few of the notable places we visit on this fantastic climbing road trip and are great areas for the beginner and experienced crusher alike to test their skills and grow as an outdoor climber. This camp offers all the same opportunities for technical skill development as our Colorado Rock Climbing summer camp, and chances to take them to the next level!
