Visit the Winds Back for 2.....We're always excited to be heading back to the Winds for great fishing and exploring-- Wyoming's Wind River Range has it all--- from spectacular high alpine peaks with unsurpassed mountaineering possibilities to what we think is
the best backcountry fishing in North America.
OWA returns to the Winds for our 26th year, and we wouldn't keep going back if it wasn't worth it!
For 2006 we will have two groups in the Winds at the same time-- Wind River Alpine (with an obvious focus on alpine climbing skills) and Wind River Backcountry (with a focus on fishing, backpacking and wilderness skills). Alpine team members will certainly backpack and have plenty of opportunity to fish............. and Backcountry team members will have the opportunity to summit a peak or two and experience the alpine environment.
The programs originates at the OWA Base Camp and then straight into a backcountry exploration into the Popo Agie Wilderness. The expedition will take the team into the Popo Agie Wilderness and associated lakes, streams, cirques and peaks. There will be plenty of great fishing opportunities along with a chance to develop serious backcountry skills and summit a high peak or two.
The Winds are remote and require serious backpacking to get off the beaten path, but all of our Wind River vets will attest to the rewards of what you find when you are suddenly far from the crowds: big and plentiful fish (Goldens, Brookies, Cutthroats, and Rainbows), spectacular alpine summits, abundant wildlife (moose, elk, mule deer, black bear, bighorn sheep), and some of the truest wilderness left in the lower 48!
The expedition assembles at OWA's Colorado Base Camp, where it gears up and receives basic training in backcountry and fishing skills. The trip to Wyoming is via OWA vehicles with an overnight stop along the way.
Combine this trip with Tarryall Fishing Camp 2 (June 24- July 1) for an unparalleled opportunity to fish some of the best water in 2 states. Combining programs not only offers team members more time doing what they love but saves you some $$ off of individual program fees.
